'Gen S28: Press Up/ Fold In’ is a divergent performance lecture that breaks into song and dance.
This 30-minute solo considers the implications of living under Section 28* without knowing it, and highlights artworks made under the laws, around the time of the artists birth (1989).
Non-linear narratives are pieced together through chants, shadow play and embroidered slogans sewn onto T-shirts. Fan-like behaviours are contained, and spill out, creating space for conversation, humour and seriousness to co-exist.
*The Section 28 Laws ‘prohibited the promotion of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship’, and were in effect from 1988-2003.
